# Artwork Size Requirements

One of the most common questions we receive is:

"What size should my billboard artwork be?"

The answer depends entirely on the screens you've selected for your campaign. Unlike social media platforms, there isn't a single billboard size that works everywhere. Different media owners, billboard types, and indoor screens can all have different artwork requirements.

This article explains where to find your artwork specifications in CAASie and what those specifications mean if you don't have a design background.

### Why Are There Different Artwork Sizes?

Every screen has its own physical shape and resolution requirements.

If your campaign contains a mix of venue types, portrait and landscape screens, etc, you'll usually need separate artwork files for each format.

For example:

* A portrait retail screen may require artwork sized at 1080 × 1920
* A landscape gym screen may require 1920 × 1080
* Large-format billboards may use completely different dimensions

Because of this, CAASie groups screens with matching requirements together to minimise the number of artwork versions you need to create.

You may see information such as:

1080 × 1920 with a board coverage of (55 of 240 screens)

This means:

* The campaign contains 240 screens in total
* 55 of those screens use the 1080 × 1920 artwork specification

In other words, a single artwork file can be used across all 10 of those screens.

This helps reduce the number of unique artwork versions required.

### How to Find Your Artwork Specifications

#### Step 1: Create Your Campaign

Start by creating your campaign as normal and select the screens you want to advertise on.

Once you've chosen your screens and progressed through the campaign setup process, you'll reach the Artwork step.

#### Step 2: Review the Artwork Requirements

On the Artwork page, CAASie will display all artwork specifications required for the screens you've selected.

For example:

24 screens selected\
9 artwork sizes required

This means your chosen screens use 9 different artwork formats.

#### Step 3: Download the Specifications if needed

If you'd like to provide the requirements to a designer, click "export resolutions"

This will download a CSV file containing all required artwork specifications for the campaign.

This file can be shared directly with your designer so they know exactly what artwork sizes are needed.

### Understanding the Artwork Requirements

If you're not a designer, some of the numbers can look confusing. Here's what they mean.

#### Resolution

A resolution looks something like:

1080 × 1920 or 1920 × 1080

This simply describes the size of the artwork in pixels. The first number is the width and the second is the height.

More pixels generally mean a sharper image. Usually, a board viewed from farther away (e.g. highway billboard) will have fewer pixels than a board that's viewed up close (e.g. bus stop).

#### Aspect Ratio

Aspect ratio describes the shape of the artwork rather than its size.

For example:

* 1080 × 1920 is tall
* 1920 × 1080 is wide
* 1080 × 1080 Square

Two artworks can have different resolutions while still sharing the same shape. Generally, CAASie only refers to aspect ratios for the purpose of resizing artworks.

**Example:** \
\
**1080 x 1920** and **2160 x 3840** have the same shape/aspect ratio, but are not the same resolution.
The larger file (2160 x 3840) can be reduced to the size of the smaller one (1080 x 1920) without having to redesign the artwork.
{% endhint %}

### Video Specifications

If you're uploading a video rather than a static image, you also need to account for video length.

Many digital billboards support video advertisements, but not all screens support the same video lengths.

Common durations include:

* 6 seconds
* 7 seconds
* 10 seconds
* 15 seconds

CAASie will display the required video for each artwork specification. If multiple screens share the same resolution but require different durations, separate video files may be required.

Note that if only one duration is listed, the video must be exactly that length.

CAASie does not permit video near roadsides for traffic safety.

### **File Size & File Type**

CAASie's global maximum upload size is **7MB per file**. Some media owners may have lower limits.

CAASie's supported file types are:

**Image:** PNG & JPEG\
**Video:** MP4

Some media owners may have other limitations, and some screens do not allow video.

### Tips for Working With a Designer

If you're working with a designer, the easiest option is to:

* Create your campaign first
* Download the Export Resolutions CSV
* Send the file to your designer - make sure to include max file size limits

This ensures they have the exact specifications required for your campaign and helps avoid delays caused by incorrect artwork sizes.
